Welcome to September:-)!! In spirit of the new month and holiday, may I remind myself that (nearly) everything is a state of mind, (nearly) always my judgement is right and valid, and (nearly) everywhere is a place that is changing. We must remember that to live amongst others is to understand oneself as a part of them. There are no binaries, no misnomers, only a community of people all questing after the eternal rite to rest.
I have been trying to walk more. Incrementally I have been venturing farther from campus. Today I walked all the way McDonalds. By car it would have taken me only a couple of minutes, but the extra time walking allowed me to take in Covington at a pedestrian level. It has been humbling. The world is big and I am small. It is wonderful. Walking has also allowed me to listen to more audiobooks. Lately, I have been listening to a short story collection by Ray Bradbury. He is a brilliant writer. I invited Clancy to join me for a walk, but he said that he was too busy :-(.
I am thinking about humans and technology again. I am getting pretty tired of hearing: "this is it, we're never coming back from this!" A.I. is the new source for public anxieties. A.I. is very annoying and is definitely bad for the environment, but I do not think that it is capable of armageddon. May I remind everyone that it is still just code running programs housed on servers situated on planet Earth. These servers need a constant supply of electricity and upkeep to remain operational. If any rung in the global infrastructure snaps, A.I. will be one of the first things to go. We are getting too confident in our own capability to annihilate. Go out into the world and try to walk to your local McDonalds. I think that you will learn that there is a lot of space that we do not fill.
