The Silent Interlocutor Blog

(12/5/22)

I’m considering posting more to this blog. I originally made this part of the website as a way to share updates on the archive, but it also seems fun to just ramble for a bit about daily nonsense. Expect more rambles! Here’s a quick ramble to give you a taste of what’s in store...

I don’t think my roommate sleeps. He must sleep eventually. I remember hearing as a kid that we sleep to get rid of the “grey matter” that collects in our brains while we are awake. Grey matter is all the words that are on the tip of your tongue and all the ideas that you forget before you can jot them down. Every time I’m up really late I get worried that the grey matter is going to collect too much and I’ll get Alzheimer’s or something. Evan must be like 70% grey matter. Last night, at around 5am, I woke up to find him still sitting at his desk, scrolling on his phone. He must sleep while I’m in class. He doesn’t seem to ever go to class or do any schoolwork in the dorm. He just scrolls on his phone. I think I’ve finally convinced him to wear headphones, so I don’t have to hear the YouTube shorts he’s watching at all hours of the day. He claims that he just uses Chrys to do all his schoolwork, and that’s why it never takes him very long. Personally, I don’t know if I trust Chrys enough for that. The technology is pretty impressive, but it’s still just a robot pretending to understand you.
