The Silent Interlocutor Blog

   11/6/23)
Today I learned the cost of democracy: $1.63. The
woman at the post office seemed confused when I
handed her my absentee ballot. I don’t know if it
from the way I snickered to myself after she told
me how much a stamp would cost (I kept thinking to
myself, “And they said freedom is free!”) or that
I was the only person in line below the age of sixty.
I was in line with a bunch of people around the age
of the people on the ballot. Old people run the world.
They would run it for longer if they could.
